Truly African, Truly International
Now in its third year, the Pitcher Awards has quickly become one of the most valuable and internationally respected accolades for creative work coming out of Africa. The Pitcher Awards started as an annual celebration of creativity in West Africa, but beginning with the 2020 edition, the scope has now widened to include all work created, released or implemented anywhere on the African continent in line with its vision to provide the true and authentic benchmark for African creative excellence.
Publication in Lürzer’s Archive
Following the pattern in previous editions, a compilation of the winning materials will be published in the international edition of Lürzer’s Archive. The special Cannes Lions issue is usually distributed at the Festival and worldwide. In addition to this, the winning works will be celebrated online at the Lürzer’s Archive website.

Also following previous editions, a special 2020 Pitcher Awards Winners Showcase featuring a compilation of all the winning work will be presented at the Cannes Lions Festival and distributed through various other platforms.
The Pitcher Awards will be judged by 4 main juries.
The Heritage jury will judge Film, Audio, Print, Design, Branded Content and Outdoor materials including Installations and Activations.
The Channel jury will judge entries for Use of Media, Use of Data, Use of Insights and Strategy, PR and Reputation Management and Integrated Campaigns.
The Digital Jury will look at works in Social Media, Websites, Microsites and Web Services, Apps, Games, Messaging as well as Devices and Novel ideas in addition to the Pitcher for Good categories including the special one-off COVID-19 category for 2021.
Special awards will include Advertising Agency of the Year, Media Agency of the Year, Digital Agency of the Year and Advertiser of the Year.
The Pitcher for Good is given in recognition of exceptional work, communication or initiative by not-for-profit organisations that advance strong sustainability narratives with social or environmental issues. In 2021 the COVID-19 subcategory will also recognize entries at Shortlist, Bronze and Silver levels in addition to the Pitcher for Good which is equivalent to Gold.
The for-profit category recognizes work by a brand that goes beyond the expectations of regular CSR to creatively connect with its publics in a manner that clearly shows a strong purpose for social, environmental or sustainability values. Works created as a result of partnership between a for-profit and non-profit organisation can be entered in either of the two sub-categories.
The Advertiser of the Year Award
The Advertiser of the Year Award is designed to recognize clients who have displayed commitment and courage in commissioning and approving works that push and uplift the creative boundaries.

Grand Prix = 24
The Agency of the Year is the agency that has the highest point aggregate in its category.

The Pitcher Awards Night & Gala
The Pitcher Awards night on 28 March 2020 will conclude the 2020 Pitcher Festival of Creativity. Professionals, agencies and clients alike are welcome to this grand finale of Pitcher Festival to celebrate the best of our industry and help project the true and positive spirit of Africa to the world.
Entry cost is USD 140 per entry for Integrated and USD 100 per entry for other sub-categories. Each item in a campaign is charged separately at the same rate.
